ASC announces new holiday show with Eric Essix, 5 Men on a Stool

Birmingham’s own Eric Essix will join the Atlanta-based group for a jazzy, soulful collection of songs of the season and group favorites.

eric essix2In a new show just announced by the University of Alabama at Birmingham’s Alys Stephens Performing Arts Center, the city’s own Eric Essix will perform a jazzy holiday show Sunday, Dec. 7, with Atlanta-based group 5 Men on a Stool.

“Holiday Soul” will feature a soulful collection of songs of the season. No strangers to the Alys Stephens Center and Birmingham, 5 Men on a Stool shared the stage with Essix in 2013 as part of his “Evolution” concert, and together they have played venues throughout the U.S. performing their own unique blend of jazz, gospel, R&B, and spoken word.

The show is set for 7 p.m. at the ASC, 1200 10th Ave. South. Tickets are $36 and are on sale now. For tickets, call 205-975-2787 or visit the ASC online at www.AlysStephens.org.

The show will feature Alys Stephens Center Artist-in-Residence Essix on guitar; Melvin Miller, trumpet; Antonio Allen, saxophone; spoken word poet Hank Stewart; and vocalist Leonard Julien III. In addition to a holiday-themed set, the ensemble will also perform favorites from the group’s time-tested set.
