Cimino is a board certified internist and clinical informatician who divides his time between informatics research and development, medical and informatics education, and patient care.

He has previously worked at the Harvard/Massachusetts General Hospital, Columbia/New-York Presbyterian Hospital, and the NIH Clinical Center/National Library of Medicine.

His current research involves development of systems to support clinical and translational researchers and exploring new paradigms for improving electronic health records.  

He is the co-editor of a leading textbook on biomedical informatics and associate editor of the Journal of Biomedical Informatics.
