Abraham honored by American Thoracic Society

Edward Abraham M.D., chair of the UAB Department of Medicine, will receive the 2011 Recognition Award for Scientific Accomplishments from the American Thoracic Society at their International Conference in Denver on May 15, 2011.

The award is given each year to ATS members who demonstrate outstanding scientific contributions in basic or clinical research to the understanding, prevention and treatment of respiratory disease or critical illness.

Abraham’s research focus is on inflammation, neutrophil biology, acute lung injury and sepsis. He maintains basic, translational and clinical research programs that have received continuous NIH funding for more than 25 years. He has published more than 300 articles and edited seven books, including the Textbook of Critical Care and was editor of the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine.
