UAB director of Research in Computer Forensics, Gary Warner, was recently selected as a 2011 Microsoft Most Valuable Professional in Enterprise Security. He is one of only 51 Microsoft MVPs worldwide in the Enterprise Security category.
Warner has been honored as a Microsoft MVP five times, including twice in the last three years. The annual prize is awarded to a highly select group of technical experts. The award recognizes exceptional technology leaders worldwide who actively and willingly share their high-quality, real-world expertise.
Warner is UAB’s first director of Research in Computer Forensics. He believes computer science professionals should help society maintain a safe computing environment. His primary research areas are spam data mining, phishing and computer intrusion. Corporations and law enforcement agencies frequently seek Warner out to assist in cybercrime cases.In 2003, Warner was elected to the national board of directors of InfraGard, a partnership between corporate security personnel and the FBI. He has presented on dozens of topics related to computer security at local, regional and national security events and is an active member of the FBI's Digital PhishNet and AntiPhishing Working Group.
