Read named associate editor-in-chief for eye journal

Russell W. Read, M.D., Ph.D., associate professor of ophthalmology and pathology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), has been named an associate editor-in-chief of the Journal of Ophthalmic Inflammation and Infection, a peer-reviewed open access journal. It presents current clinical and experimental research on a range of ophthalmic inflammation and infection.

Read is an internationally recognized leader in the treatment of uveitis, a potentially blinding disease that causes inflammation of the eye. Uveitis is thought to be responsible for 10 to15 percent of all blindness in the United States.

Read joined the faculty of the UAB Department of Ophthalmology in August 2000. He is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is a fellow of the AAO, as well as a member of the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology, Hogan Eye Pathology Society, American Medical Association, Medical Association of the State of Alabama, Jefferson County Medical Society and Alabama Academy of Ophthalmology. He is the executive secretary of the American Uveitis Society and is active in clinical and applied basic science research and ophthalmic pathology.

The Journal of Ophthalmic Inflammation and Infection is the official journal of the International Ocular Inflammation Society (IOIS), focusing on relevant clinical and experimental research on ophthalmic inflammation and infection. The editorial board includes and represents international experts in the field of ophthalmic inflammation and infection.
