National Public Health Week kicks off at UAB with prominent speakers

This year's guest speaker is Donna Arnett, Ph.D., president of the American Heart Association.

NPHWkickoffNational Public Health Week activities at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) will begin with a breakfast seminar at 8:30 a.m. Monday, April 1, 2013, in the Edge of Chaos. This year’s guest speaker is Donna Arnett, Ph.D., MSPH, professor and chair of the Department of Epidemiology in the UAB School of Public Health (SOPH) and current president of the American Heart Association, the nation’s oldest and largest voluntary organization dedicated to fighting heart disease and stroke.

A lunchtime seminar will follow and feature Michael Hogan, Ph.D., former New York State Commissioner of Mental Health. Hogan also chaired the President’s New Freedom commission on Mental Health from 2002-2003, and he was appointed as the first behavioral health representative on the board of The Joint Commission in 2007. Hosted by the UAB School of Public Health and the UAB School of Nursing, the event will start at 11:30 a.m. at the Edge of Chaos.
