Peter Anderson, D.V.M., Ph.D., professor of pathology at UAB, has received the 2011 Michele D. Raible M.D. Award for Distinguished Teaching in Undergraduate Medical Education from the Association of Pathology Chairs. The award was established in 2010 to recognize individuals who have shown remarkable impact on undergraduate medical education locally, nationally, internationally and virtually.
Anderson is the director of pathology undergraduate education at UAB. He has received virtually all of the departmental, School of Medicine and university-wide educational awards available to faculty at UAB, including Best Lecturer, Best Course Director, Best Course, Outstanding Course Director and the President’s Award for Excellence in Teaching.
In 2008, Anderson received national recognition for his teaching when he received the Alpha Omega Alpha Robert J. Glaser Distinguished Teaching Award from the Association of American Medical Colleges. In 2009 he was selected to be a Fulbright Specialist and assisted medical schools around the world in designing and upgrading their medical curricula. He has been to Zambia three times to help the faculty at the Zambian Medical School.
Anderson received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Washington and a doctor of veterinary medicine degree from the Washington State University College of Veterinary Medicine. He then went on to obtain a doctoral degree in experimental cardiovascular pathology at UAB and joined the faculty in 1986.
