Sherry Polhill receives Red Cross award

The award cites Polhill’s work in developing and implementing employee blood collections at UAB beginning in 2007.

sherry_polhill_red_cross_awardSherry Polhill, director of Hospital Laboratories and Respiratory Care at UAB, has received the Blood Services Outstanding Contributor award from the American Red Cross for 2012. The award cites Polhill’s work in developing and implementing employee blood collections at UAB beginning in 2007.

The first program she launched was the UAB Touch Points program, which rewarded individuals for blood donation. That was followed by the Employee Blood Program, which rewarded departmental teams. 

Polhill is also responsible for helping the blood management team develop themes for the five major drives held at UAB each year, in addition to helping other entities within the UAB Health System develop individualized programs.

Her work has contributed to an increase in blood collections, helping the Red Cross to accomplish its goal of collecting more than 10,500 units of blood at UAB during FY2012.
