Haibin Ning, Ph.D., a professor in UAB’s Department of Materials Science and Engineering, has won the 2013 Professor of the Year Award from the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) International.Ning joined ASTM Committee D30 on Composite Materials in 2012 and has since proposed a new carbon fiber content-measurement procedure to complement existing test methods.
Ning teaches courses in materials characterization and testing, manufacturing processes, and finite element analysis, where he exposes undergraduate and graduate students to ASTM International standards in lab work, lectures and assignments. He also manages UAB’s advanced materials testing and processing lab and conducts research on fiber-reinforced composite materials.
