UAB to hold research symposium on mood disorders and suicide

Experts from UAB and other leading institutions will discuss mood disorders and suicide at an April symposium.

mood disordersClinical and translational research in mood disorders and suicide is the focus of a two-day symposium at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, April 10-11. Sponsored by the Comprehensive Neuroscience Center and the Department of Psychiatry, the symposium is designed for neurologists, psychiatrists, researchers and other health care providers, and medical students interested in mood disorders and depression.

The symposium will be held at the Bradley Lecture Center, Children's Harbor, 1600 Sixth Ave. South. Speakers include clinicians and researchers from UAB, along with guest presenters from Columbia, Yale, Harvard, McGill and Cornell universities.

Subjects include the pathophysiology of depression and suicide, novel techniques for understanding brain function, subtypes of depression, and the physiological basis of new treatments.
