UAB music grad wins state competition with original work

UAB music graduate Daniel Swearengin, 23, is the winner of the Alabama Music Teachers Association Composition Competition, in the young artist division.

Swearengin’s original work, “Solo for Bb Clarinet,” will be featured at the 2012 AMTA state conference in June 2012. The composition also qualifies for the Music Teachers National Association competition.

Swearengin, a native of Clay, received a bachelor of art degree in music technology from the UAB Department of Music in 2010. He has been taking composition lessons with UAB Assistant Professor of Music William Price, D.M.A.
