Accelerate for a cancer cure

UAB scientist Timothy Nagy will race to raise funds for the UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center on Nov. 19-20.

Drivers can compete for prizes and raise funds for the UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center in the PBOC Motorsports Club Points Race at Barber Motorsports Park Nov. 19-20, 2011.

Tim_Nagy_storyThe two drivers who raise the most money by Nov. 20 will win a free race entry or driver education school form for 2011-12.  The driver who secures the most pledges will win two three-day tickets to the Honda Indy Grand Prix of Alabama. All registered drivers are eligible to participate. The annual Accelerate for a Cure race was founded by UAB Cancer Center senior scientist Timothy Nagy, Ph.D., vice chair for research in the Department of Nutrition Sciences, who races at the club level, instructs at high-performance driver education events and directs time trials for NASA-MidSouth.

For a donation, the general public can drive their own cars on the track at noon Nov. 20, or ride with instructors in a racecar for $25 at 10 a.m., 1:35 p.m., 3 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.
