Rediscovering the Joy of Eating

UAB alumnus Luis Pineda, M.D., and Chef Jared Danks will help cancer patients rediscover the joy eating.

Too often, cancer patients in treatment lose their sense of taste, which can have a serious impact on nutrition and social relationships. The UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center, Virginia College and Cooking with Cancer, Inc., will offer patients and their families a series of cooking classes with simple recipes designed to re-awaken taste buds and appetites.

UAB alumnus Luis Pineda, M.D., and Chef Jared Danks will provide an evening of cooking demonstrations and tastings in the professional kitchens of Culinard, 488 Palisades Boulevard. Each class will address a different topic, such as the technique of combining ingredients, understanding ingredients’ therapeutic properties and appreciating the “foodie” in you. The free classes will be held Jan. 17, March 21, May 16, July 18, Sept. 19 and Nov. 14, 2013, from 6-7 p.m. Culinard is wheelchair-accessible and offers free parking.
