The UAB CSW will host its sixth annual Suits 4 Success drive to benefit My Sister’s Closet, an outreach program of the YWCA Central Alabama, Feb. 4-8, 2013.
Tax-deductible donations of clean, gently used women’s shoes, accessories and apparel – preferably on hangers – will be accepted at the drive-through located in front of the John N. Whitaker Building, 500 22nd St. South, from 6:30-10 a.m. Feb. 4-8. Drop boxes will also be located on campus in the Administration Building, Heritage Hall, Campbell Hall, Business and Engineering Complex, Humanities Building, Hill University Center and the schools of Nursing, Public Health, Education and Health Professions.
The UAB drive will also benefit young women, said Wendy Gunther-Canada, Ph.D., CSW president and chair of the Department of Government.
“We have support from members of the UAB Student Government Association and the Greek societies, who will be collecting formal wear for the YWCA’s annual prom event to provide dresses for area high school students,” she said.
The UAB community can also help women and girls who are living at the YWCA by providing toiletries for use in their shelter downtown.
“Our campus efforts and the contributions of the larger community make a tremendous difference in the lives of women entering the workforce, and they provide hope for those in need,” Gunther-Canada said.
