Expo highlights undergraduate scholarship

The expo gives young researchers experience presenting their ideas and promotes dialogue among disciplines.

The sixth annual UAB Expo will showcase research and scholarly work by University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) undergraduate students across all academic disciplines and departments.

student_expo_sThe expo gives young researchers experience presenting their ideas in the format used by many academic conferences, and it provides a forum for students to discuss cutting edge research and creative topics with faculty and the UAB community. In 2012, nearly 200 undergraduates participated in the student-planned and led event.

This year’s expo will feature a keynote address by Cynthia Ryan, Ph.D., associate professor of English. She will present “The Way You Say the Things You Do: Research, Community and Conversation in the 21st Century,” an exploration of how researchers across disciplines acknowledge and advance their ideas using 21st century communication technologies and conventions.

The 2013 poster and oral presentation sessions will be 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Friday, April 26, 2013, at the Campus Recreation Center, 1501 University Blvd. The keynote address will begin at 11 a.m. in Heritage Hall 102, 1401 University Blvd., followed by the awards ceremony.
