UAB students to go to Montgomery for National College Colors Day

UAB students will travel to Alabama's Capitol in Montgomery at the end of August to help promote an upcoming national celebration of school spirit and college sports. National College Colors Day, which is Sept. 3, is designed to encourage people across the United States to wear the apparel of their favorite college or university.

Observance of College Colors Day, which coincides with the new school year and the kickoff of college athletics, is an effort to advocate higher education through increased public awareness and celebrates the achievement of colleges and universities, acknowledging their fundamental importance.

Student representatives from UAB and the UAB mascot, Blaze, will attend a special ceremony with other college and university students and mascots at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 31, outside the Alabama Capitol, where Gov. Bob Riley will sign a proclamation declaring Sept. 3 as College Colors Day in Alabama. For more information about College Colors Day 2010, visit www.collegecolorsday.com.
