The UAB Jazz Ensemble recently received the first place award of Band of Distinction April 14 at the 2012 Alabama Jazz Hall of Fame Student Jazz Band Festival. Micah Braxton, a UAB music technology major from Norfolk, Va., won the honor of outstanding soloist for his work on drum set.
The competition included jazz bands from colleges in Alabama and Mississippi.
