The University of Alabama System Board of Trustees approved the creation of the Susan L. Perkins Endowed Student Award in Respiratory Therapy in the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) School of Health Professions during its meeting April 12, 2013. Perkins earned on of the first degrees conferred in respiratory therapy at UAB, earned two master’s degrees and served on the faculty. She earned the Joseph F. Volker Outstanding Faculty Award in 1999.
