Mattie Boyd of Homewood named Miss UAB 2016

Mattie Boyd, a senior marketing major, has been named Miss UAB 2016.

The Miss UAB Scholarship Pageant is an official preliminary to the Miss Alabama and Miss America pageants. The pageant was held in UAB’s Alys Stephens Performing Arts Center.

Boyd is a senior majoring in marketing. She was awarded a $2,000 scholarship and also named the winner of the swimsuit award.

The first alternate was sophomore Harley Chapin of Columbiana, who was awarded $750. Chapin also won the talent portion of the competition, winning a $200 scholarship. The second alternate was senior Summer Blasingame of Florence, who was awarded $650. The third alternate was Sarah Robertson of Springville, who was awarded $550. The fourth alternate was Ashley Cooper of Meridianville, who was awarded $350.

Miss UAB and the talent winner received award plaques. Miss UAB and all alternates received flowers from Dorothy McDaniel’s Flower Market, all provided by the University Programs Board.
