UAB Assistant Professor Terry Conkle, Ph.D., has been named president of the Alabama State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance.

BIRMINGHAM, AL — UAB Assistant Professor Terry Conkle, Ph.D., has been named president of the Alabama State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance.

Conkle assumed the post during the ASAHPERD Leadership Development conference in April. His term is effective through May 4, 2001.

The ASAHPERD is an incorporated non-profit organization that is affiliated with the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance and the Alabama Education Association.

The ASAHPERD, founded in 1925, is designed to promote professional development, research, public awareness, standards and guidelines for personnel and programs in health, leisure and movement-related activities. The organization has a membership of 1,400 professionals and students.

Conkle teaches in the UAB School of Education’s physical education program. He joined the UAB faculty in November 1999.
