A small neighborhood in North Titusville will celebrate “New Beginnings” as residents pledge to revitalize the community. As part of the celebration, the neighborhood, a circle of 23 homes located off First Avenue South and Center Place, will be named Center Court Circle. Residents chose the name from a list of names submitted by neighborhood children. UAB is assisting the community in its efforts to rebuild the area and will participate in the celebration.

ACTIVITIES:
Following a brief ceremony to unveil a sign boasting the neighborhood’s new name, refreshments will be served. Prizes donated by local merchants will be given away and there will be games for the children. Also, UAB AmeriCorp volunteers and student athletes will be on hand for the event.

“These hard-working men and women have taken charge and are working to improve the conditions of their neighborhood and to change the impression others have of their community,” says Virginia Volker, Titusville 2000 project coordinator with the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). “They are taking pride in their community and defining for themselves how they want to be viewed.” Titusville 2000 is a university-community partnership between UAB and the Titusville community to improve neighborhoods in the area. The project is coordinated by the Civitan International Research Center at UAB.
