WHAT:

The Alabama 1 Disaster Medical Assistance Team (AL 1 DMAT), sponsored by UAB's Center for Disaster Preparedness and the Birmingham VA Medical Center (BVAMC), will depart for Salt Lake City, Utah, and the 2002 Winter Olympics next week. The team will be on hand to assemble and operate its fully equipped, self-sustained field hospital in the event medical support is needed. Two teams of five members each will go to Salt Lake City for 12-day rotations. AL 1 is among the few DMATs that maintains a full inventory of equipment and supplies for a field hospital.

WHEN/WHERE:

Team one will meet at the Birmingham Airport Tuesday, February 5, at 6 a.m. to board a commercial flight to Salt Lake City. The team will return to Birmingham on Saturday, February 16. Team two will depart on Thursday, February 14, and will return on Monday, February 25.
