Jane Roy, Ph.D., has joined the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) School of Education as an assistant professor in department of human studies.

BIRMINGHAM, AL — Jane Roy, Ph.D., has joined the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) School of Education as an assistant professor in department of human studies.

Roy is an exercise physiologist specializing in human performance and physical conditioning. She has conducted studies on the influence of fitness, activity, body fat and socioeconomic status on body shape perceptions.

Roy taught at Judson College 1998-2001. During that time, she also worked as the program chairwoman of Human Performance Studies at the college.

Roy earned her bachelor of science degree in sports/fitness management from the University of Alabama in 1992. She later earned her master’s and doctoral degrees in exercise physiology from the University of Alabama in 1995 and 1998 respectively. She played professional tennis 1984-1985. She achieved a Top 20 Junior British ranking and a Top 100 World Junior ranking. In 1990, while attending the University of Alabama, she earned a NCAA doubles ranking.

Roy is a native of Nottingham, England.
