The University of Alabama Board of Trustees has established an endowed scholarship in the School of Dentistry at UAB, made possible by a generous gift from John S. Walker, D.M.D., of Boulder, Colorado.

BIRMINGHAM, AL — The University of Alabama Board of Trustees has established an endowed scholarship in the School of Dentistry at UAB, made possible by a generous gift from John S. Walker, D.M.D., of Boulder, Colorado.

The Johnny and Claire Walker Endowed Scholarship is named in honor of Dr. Walker’s two children and will be used to assist deserving dental students, preferably from underrepresented, low-income and minority populations.

Walker, originally of Fort Worth, Texas, was educated at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, graduating in 1974; The University of Alabama School of Dentistry at UAB, graduating in 1978; The University of Alabama Hospital, receiving a certificate in hospital dentistry in 1979; and at Fairleigh Dickerson University, receiving a certificate in orthodontics in 1987.

He has been in private practice since 1979, first in Hueytown, practicing general dentistry from 1979 until 1985, and then in Boulder, owning his own private orthodontic practice since 1987.

His two children are John (Johnny) Hart Walker, born June 25, 1985, and Claire Burns Walker, born January 16, 1989.
