BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Gospel Choir will present a spring concert at 7 p.m. Monday, April 26 in UAB's Alys Stephens Center, 1200 10th Ave. South. The choir's annual spring concert will feature 100 voices under the direction of Kevin P. Turner. Also featured will be the UAB Gospel Choir Band and the UAB Mime Team, under the direction of Christina J. Wade. Musical guests from Montgomery also will perform. This upbeat program will include compositions by Turner and Clinton Green and music by Vanessa Bell Armstrong, Hezekiah Walker and Earnest Pugh.

Proceeds from this concert will go toward the release of the next UAB Gospel Choir CD, which the choir will begin recording this month. Pre-order forms for the new CD will be included in the concert program. The UAB Gospel Choir's previous recordings "Live," "Lessons for Life" and "Go Dominate!" will be available for purchase at the concert.

About the UAB Gospel Choir

The UAB Gospel Choir is a performance class in the UAB Department of Music that is open to all UAB students. The choir has released three CDs and a DVD, presents sold-out concerts at the Alys Stephens Center and tours annually and is the 2010 Alabama People's Choice Music Award "College Choir of the Year" recipient. In 2008 their song "After You've Prayed About It" debuted at No. 23 on XM Radio's Spirit Channel play list and rose to the No. 2 spot for six weeks. They are a national and international ambassador for the university, receiving critical acclaim in newspapers, on television and online. Their international impact led to an invitation to London; they will tour London and Holland in spring 2011.
