The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) School of Optometry has established the Bob and Hulene Crosby Endowed Optometry Scholarship, an action approved by the University of Alabama System Board of Trustees during its June 18 meeting.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) School of Optometry has established the Bob and Hulene Crosby Endowed Optometry Scholarship, an action approved by the University of Alabama System Board of Trustees during its June 18 meeting.

The scholarship honors G. Robert Crosby, O.D., an Ozark, Ala. -based optometrist who maintains the highest standards of care and works to advance the optometric profession in the state. A member of the Alabama Board of Optometry, Crosby is a past president of the Alabama Optometric Association and past president of the Southern Council of Optometry. He helped establish the UAB School of Optometry more than four decades ago.

The scholarship also honors Crosby's wife, Hulene Crosby, a licensed pharmacist who owns and operates a pharmacy in Ozark. She has served on the Alabama Pharmacy Association Board.

Both husband and wife are actively involved in philanthropic and public improvement projects in their community.

About the UAB School of Optometry
The UAB School of Optometry is recognized nationally for its significant contributions to eye and vision care knowledge and vision science. Founded in 1969, the school is the only institution in Alabama to offer the four-year doctor of optometry degree.
