The University of Alabama System Board of Trustees appointed University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) faculty member James R. Ward, Ph.D., professor emeritus during its June 18 meeting.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The University of Alabama System Board of Trustees appointed University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) faculty member James R. Ward, Ph.D., professor emeritus during its June 18 meeting.

Ward, who retired from UAB in December 2009, was as a professor of mathematics and directed the department's Graduate Program. He also was its representative on the UAB Faculty Senate. He built an international reputation that led to invitations for research visits to Louvain, Belgium; Trieste, Italy; Granada, Spain; Torino, Italy; and Santiago, Chile.

Ward earned his doctorate from the University of South Florida. He joined the UAB faculty in 1989.
