This course is required for anyone that will be shipping samples that are considered Infectious Substances, Category A.

To help determine if your substance falls under Infectious Substances, Category A, review the PDF file below or use the Classification Chart to help you properly classify your shipment.
Any UAB employee who handles or offers for transport an Infectious Substance, Category A substance must complete training every two years or if regulations change. This is a Federal requirement per the Hazardous Materials Regulation.

At the conclusion, participants should be able to:
  1. Identify and properly classify Infectious Substances, Category A intended for shipment.
  2. Correctly pack samples with appropriate primary and secondary containment.
  3. Use correct Marks and Labels on packaging.
  4. Properly complete the appropriate shipping documents.
  5. Follow necessary safety guidelines to avoid any accidents or injuries.

A BlazerID or XIAS account is required to register for and take the course.

A copy of the completed training certificate must be maintained in the laboratory files and presented to the proper authorities upon request.

Once you pass the assessment for the course, you may go to the My Transcript tab and located the course link. Once you click on the link, you will see another link that brings up your certificate for the course. Choose File, Print to print it.
