anita clemonAnita Clemon, director for HR Compliance, is the new chair of UAB’s Commission on the Status of Women.

The CSW is dedicated to improving options and opportunities for women at every stage of their education and careers. Its role is to advise the UAB president on issues, policies, and practices that affect women and propose initiatives to ensure that UAB fairly meets the needs of its women employees and students. It operates under the auspices of the office of Paulette Dilworth, vice president for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.

“The commission’s support of work-life balance initiatives, training and development of emerging leaders and community outreach help to improve the academic climate and work environment at UAB and benefit the entire campus community,” Clemon said.

“These efforts build on UAB’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion and are evidenced by the educational achievements of women students, the innovative teaching, scholarship and research by women faculty and the professional advancement of women staff and administrators.”

Among its activities, the commission co-sponsors the UAB Outstanding Women Awards presented each March and coordinates the annual Suits 4 Success drive, which helps provide work-appropriate apparel for women through community outreach programs.
