With the gradual revitalization of our economy, many Americans still live in economic distress; struggling daily to keep the American dream alive, with hope for a clear more prosperous future.
Hello, my name is Scelelar “BB” Jefferson. I am the Clinic Coordinator at UAB’s School of Optometry Community Eye Care. Community Eye Care [CEC] is an outreach mobile extension of our Primary Care Clinic within the school. CEC consists of four licensed Optometrists, one Clinic Coordinator and 46-90 interns. We strive to provide continual service to the underprivileged through the provision of complete eye exams and prescriptions along with eye wear, as needed, in order to give them an opportunity to see the world through clearer lenses.
However, we need your help! During the month of December, the month of giving, we will present the “Gift of Sight” to those in need. Alone we can reach many, but together we can reach even more! Our target area consists of the indigent, homeless shelters, outreach centers, and re-entry programs, as well as the non-insured/no vision insurance population.
As we come together for the good of others to give the “Gift of Sight,” we can begin to build hope within each individual. As we build individual hope, it can lead to increased family pride. As family pride increases, communities strengthen, and as communities strengthen, production increases for our nation’s economy. We are asking you to help us make a difference in the lives of others; to help make a positive impact on those less fortunate.
We will host the “Gift of Sight” on December 2-6, 2014, and have 240 patients scheduled to be on-site on December 6. We desire to provide lunch as well as gift items (such as hats, gloves, blankets, scarfs, and/or socks) to all shelter participants. Join us in making the “Gift of Sight” a success. Whatever you or your organization can contribute to aid in this grand event will be greatly appreciated. A drop off box will be placed inside the clinic lobby on the ground floor of the of the School of Optometry. Let’s make this holiday season one like none they’ve never SEEN before!
