SFC Matthew T. Peoples grew up in the foothills of Simpsonville, SC. He attended and graduated from Hillcrest High School where he was a three-sport varsity letter, and enlisted into the Army as an Infantryman in January 2011. He attended One Station Unit Training at Fort Benning, GA where he was awarded the Infantry (IN) 11B Military Occupational Specialty.
SFC Peoples’ previous assignments include Mechanized Infantry Platoon Sergeant for 2ND PLT Bandit Company, 3rd BN 15th IN, 2ABCT, 3 ID, Army Recruiter for Athens Company, Atlanta Recruiting BN, Rifle Platoon Sergeant for 1st PLT Charlie Company, 3rd BN 7th IN, 2ABCT, 3ID, Weapons Squad Leader, Rifle Squad Leader, and Team Leader for 1st PLT Abel Company, 4th BN 31st IN, 2IBCT, 10th Mountain Division. SFC Peoples’ deployments include Operation Enduring Freedom, Afghanistan (1) and Operation Atlantic Resolve (1).
SFC Peoples’ military education include the Senior Leader, Army Recruiter, Advanced Leader, Urban Combat Leaders, Basic Leader, Air Assault, Combatives Level 1, and Combat Life Savers Courses.
His awards and decorations include the Army Commendation Medal (3OLC), the Army Achievement Medal (6OLC), the Army Good Conduct Medal (4th), the National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign medal (1Star), the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon (Numeral 3), the Army Service Ribbon, the Oversees Service Ribbon (Numeral 2), the Nato Medal, the Air Assault Badge, and the Recruiter Badge.
SFC Peoples married his wife Katelyn on September 18th, 2010. They have one son named Bryson who was born on July 15th, 2011 who attends High School at Chelsea High School. Katelyn is a Pediatric Intensive Care Nurse (RN) at the Children’s Hospital of Alabama in Birmingham. Bryson is an avid competitive martial artist who practices at Cobra Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in Chelsea, AL. They reside in Chelsea, AL.
