On the morning of April 12, most UAB faculty and staff (see exceptions below) received an email from ModernThink, with the subject "UAB Campus Engagement Survey," that includes a unique link to take the UAB Campus Engagement Survey on ModernThink's secure website. Here's what you need to know:
1. Why survey?
Understanding your perspectives on your work experiences is critical to celebrating our strengths and identifying actionable areas for improvement. UAB is in the midst of developing a five-year strategic plan. Survey results will inform that plan.
2. Who is being surveyed?
UAB faculty and staff, including adjuncts, part-time staff and postdocs, hired before March 1, 2017. (For a complete breakdown, see this graphic.)
3. What is being asked? How long will it take?
The survey included topics suggested by faculty and staff focus groups, including questions on benefits, leadership and job satisfaction. Most people will be able to complete the survey in about 20 minutes.
4. When is the survey and how will it work?
On April 12, you received an email from our survey partner, ModernThink, with an individualized link to the UAB Campus Engagement Survey on ModernThink’s secure website. The survey period ran from April 12-26. At the end of the survey, participants had the choice to opt-in to enter a random drawing of several exciting prizes donated by on- and off-campus organizations. Learn more here.
NOTE: Heersink School of Medicine faculty also took the annual UAB Medicine Faculty Engagement Survey, from vendor Press Ganey, which was available between April 10-24.
5. Are my answers confidential?
Yes. ModernThink will handle all data to ensure that participants can respond candidly while maintaining anonymity. No identifiable results will be shared with anyone at UAB.
6. How will results be shared?
Survey results will be openly shared at town hall meetings and on this website. We will also provide regular updates of leader actions to address results.
7. Is this a one-time event?
No. UAB leadership is committed to a regular survey process, with additional surveys planned every 2 – 3 years subsequently. (See timeline below.)
