Response Rate

Response Rate

The overall response rate for the 2025 survey was 49 percent of workgroups A and F, with more than 5,000 employees participating — the highest number of responses since the survey started in 2017. The response rate was 57 percent for staff and 48 percent for faculty.

Survey Average

The survey’s average was 71 percent positive overall, with faculty having a 69 percent positive survey average and staff a 73 percent positive.

Institution-Wide Areas of Improvement

A critical benefit of this survey remains our ability to identify areas in which we can continue to improve the employee experience at UAB. Based on faculty and staff feedback in the 2025 Campus Engagement Survey, we are taking strategic action in the following areas: Recognition, Career Advancement, and Transparent Communication.

    Recognition

    Employees want more meaningful and consistent recognition.

    • Only 60 percent feel recognized for contributions.
    • Just 56 percent find recognition and awards programs meaningful.

    Planned Actions

  • Action Area No. 2

    Career Advancement

    Employees express a desire for clearer pathways of advancement and opportunities for growth.

    • Only 51 percent agree that advancement and promotion processes are clear
    • Just 58 percent feel there are opportunities to advance at the institution

    Planned Actions

    • UAB HR Compensation will continue to create career ladders in addition to the current published ladders.
    • UAB HR Learning & Development will collaborate with Staff Council, Access & Engagement and others to investigate how to increase mentorship opportunities for staff.
  • Action Area No. 3

    Transparent Communication

    While UAB’s overall communication scores improved in 2025, employees have expressed a desire for greater transparency in communication and opportunities for open dialogue between leaders, faculty and staff.

    • 55 percent believe that changes are discussed prior to being implemented
    • 62 percent agree that leadership communicates openly about important matters

    Planned Actions

    • Senior leadership will continue to conduct institution-wide town halls, engage in Faculty Senate & Staff Council meetings, and publish online guidance based on employee questions and feedback.
    • Senior leadership will look for additional opportunities to engage with faculty and staff.
    • HR Learning and Development will continue to provide leadership training to foster open dialogue.
