As part of the Campus Engagement Survey conducted through Modern Think, the Great Colleges to Work For® program compares survey results from participating institutions to identify colleges that receive high employee ratings regarding workplace practices and policies.

    UAB Makes the 2025 Great Colleges to Work For® Honor Roll

    UAB has been recognized as one of the best higher education workplaces in the nation, earning a spot on the prestigious 2025 Great Colleges to Work For® Honor Roll. This distinction is based on feedback from our incredible faculty and staff through the February 2025 Campus Engagement Survey, with participation rates of 48 percent for faculty and 57 percent for staff, totaling over 5,000 responses. Your voices made this possible!

    What the Honor Roll Distinction Means

    Being named on the Great Colleges to Work For® Honor Roll places UAB among a select group of institutions celebrated for exceptional employee engagement, satisfaction, and workplace culture. Out of nearly 200 colleges and universities surveyed, only 42 institutions earned this top-tier distinction — and UAB is proud to be one of them.

    In 2025, UAB was honored in six categories, up from four in 2023 — a testament to our continued commitment to fostering a supportive and thriving work environment:

  • 2023

    UAB Recognized as a Higher Ed Workplace in 2023

    In 2023, UAB was recognized for the first time as one of the best colleges in the nation to work for, according to the Great Colleges to Work For® program.

    The results, released September 15, 2023, via a special insert of The Chronicle of Higher Education and at GreatCollegesList.com, are based on a survey of 194 colleges and universities. In all, 72 of those institutions achieved “Great College to Work For” recognition for specific best practices and policies.

    UAB was recognized in four categories:

    • Shared Governance
    • Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging
    • Confidence in Senior Leadership
    • Faculty Experience
