UAB hosts a large number of University-wide Centers whose missions encompass basic science, as well as application to the translational and clinical sciences. Some of the centers that chemistry faculty, students, and researchers frequently interact with are listed below.

Center for Chemical Synthesis and Analysis

Established by the Department of Chemistry in 2009 to provided research support for the design, synthesis, and characterization of synthetic research compounds to the research community.

Center for Biophysical Sciences and Engineering

Research center with expertise in structural biology and the development of enabling technologies in chemistry, life sciences and engineering. Provides resources for chemical and biochemical analysis, protein crystallization, and x-ray diffraction. Visit the website.

Center for Clinical and Translational Science

A large center funded by the NIH Clinical and Translation Science Award program. CCTS provides resources and training opportunities, and facilitates research and innovation programs across all disciplines at UAB. Visit the website.

Center for Computational and Structural Dynamics

Research and training in computational and structural biology of proteins, macromolecules, and supramolecular assemblies. Visit the website.

Center for Free Radical Biology

Studies the basic biochemical research and clinical investigation into free radicals.

Center for Nanoscale Materials and Biointegration

Focuses on the synthesis and characterization of nanoscale materials and structures with applicability in the biomedical arena. Visit the website.

Center for Optical Sensors and Spectroscopy

Research on sensor techniques using laser and spectroscopic technologies for detection of biological, chemical, environmental, and explosive agents with high sensitivity. Visit the website.

Comprehensive Cancer Center

An internationally recognized facility that is supported by the National Cancer Institute, and whose research programs span basic biochemical science, translational medicine, and cancer prevention. Visit the website.
