Carlon Alexandra has been dancing since childhood. She graduated with a BA in Dance Education (P-12) from Birmingham-Southern College (BSC) where she studied under Mira Popovich and Teri Weksler. After graduating from BSC she attended New York University where she received a degree in Dance Education for Higher Education. During her time in NYC, she studied under Deborah Damast, Frederick Curry, Barbara Bashaw, and Barry Blumenfeld. She was a company member with TapFusion, a Tap and Modern Dance Company under the direction of Barry Blumenfeld. Following her time in NYC she moved to London, UK where she received a Masters of Philosophy degree for Dance Research in Tap from the University of Roehampton.

To further her own dance training, she has studied under numerous teachers in NYC and London at Broadway Dance Center, Steps, Peridance, and Pineapple Dance Studios. She has also attended Tap Festivals all over the world to further focus her training in Tap Dance.

Carlon is a working dancer and has been teaching dance for over 20 years. She currently teaches and choreographs at NS Dance Studio in Vestavia Hills, AL. She is also a member of Dance Masters of America (DMA) and is certified by DMA in Tap and Ballet.

Here at UAB, Carlon teaches Introduction to Dance, Tap I, and Tap II. She loves introducing students to dance, furthering their technical dance training, and teaching them the history of various dance forms. Carlon is passionate about teaching and loves passing on her knowledge of dance to her students and helping each dancer find their own joy through dance. She hopes to inspire her students to find a love for dance within their bodies and encourages students to follow their own journey in dance.

Carlon resides in Birmingham, AL where she lives with her dog Coco.
