Do you know a graduate student or postdoctoral scholar who is interested in developing their teaching skills and preparing for future instructional roles? Encourage them to register for the CTL LIFT series this fall.
Lean Into Future Teaching (LIFT) provides a series of workshops that prepare participants to teach effectively in a variety of settings, including traditional classrooms, discussion sections, online courses, and laboratories. LIFT is offered by the Center for Teaching and Learning in partnership with the UAB Graduate School
The first LIFT workshop of the Fall 2026 series will be held on Wednesday, September 9, and six workshops will be offered throughout the Fall 2026 semester. Lunch is provided at each workshop:
- Principles of Good Teaching - Wed., September 9, 12:30-2:00.
- Creating and Designing Course Assessments – Wed., Sept. 23, 12:30-2:00.
- Rubrics – What are They and Why Should You Use Them? - Friday, October 9, 12:30-2:00.
- Classroom Communication – Wed., Oct. 21, 12:30-2:00.
- Active Learning Strategies for All Classrooms - Fri., Nov. 13, 12:30-2:00.
- Designing Your Course – Wed., Dec. 2, 12:30-2:00.
The series also includes opportunities for International Graduate Teaching Assistants (IGTAs) to learn about the unique characteristics of the U.S. academic environment as they adapt to teaching in higher education.
Participants who complete eight workshops will earn a LIFT Certificate from the Center for Teaching and Learning, recognizing their commitment to developing effective teaching practices.
