As the fall semester gets underway, the UAB Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) is offering a wide range of programming designed to support excellence in teaching across the university. Throughout the semester, UAB classroom, online, and clinical educators will have opportunities to explore evidence-based instructional strategies through faculty development workshops and special events that encourage collaborative sharing of innovative ideas. Whether participants are seeking to enhance course design, strengthen inclusive teaching practices, leverage artificial intelligence responsibly, use educational technologies well, or discover new approaches to student success and support, CTL offerings provide opportunities for professional growth at every stage of an academic career.

Special workshop events this upcoming month include a focus on Integrating Career Readiness into your Course on September 8, and Artificial Intelligence and Academic Integrity on September 18.

New to the CTL is the reformatting of similarly-themed workshops into CTL Blocks that can be used to build towards CTL certificates. These “building blocks” will be offered at the same day and time for three weeks, with a fourth week given to completing a related application assignment. Topics for this fall include the Basics of AI for UAB Teachers, Advancing Global Learning at UAB, Principles of Good Teaching, and Fostering International Student Success.

As in years past, multiple campus units will also offer content for UAB’s faculty and teaching staff through the CTL, including Disability Support Services, Student Counseling Services, Employee Assistance and Counseling Center, Access and Engagement, and of course the CTL’s Office of Learning Technologies.

Faculty and staff are encouraged to explore the semester's calendar and register for any of the upcoming nearly 100 sessions that align with their professional goals.
