Design and decorate your own float to be displayed for the UAB and Birmingham communities as you show your Blazer Pride around campus!

The float competition is heavily weighted on the decoration of the actual float. The goal is to display UAB spirit through the decorations on and around your float. All entries must be in good taste and will be checked before being allowed to enter the parade. Participants may be judged by the Blazer Spirit Council or the National Alumni Society.

 

Rules & Regulations

  • The parade is open to all UAB departments, student organizations, and alumni and community organizations. Priority is given to departments and student organizations.
  • All participants must register by Friday, October 13
  • All entries must be in good taste and will be checked before being allowed to enter the parade.
  • Participants may sign up to compete in one of the float competitions. Participants may choose to be judged by the Blazer Spirit Council or the UAB National Alumni Society.
  • Line-up begins no earlier than 10:00 a.m. on 14th Street South. All participants should enter from University Blvd to check in.
  • Judging for the float competitions begin at 11 a.m. It is the responsibility of the group to have their float prepared on time for line-up. We strongly encourage all floats to be completed before arrival.
  • UAB is not responsible for any loss or damage to the float, trailer, of vehicle. Care must be taken when transporting the float on roadways.
  • No animals may be on the float.
  • Only floats with vehicles will be judged.
  • In case of damage to the float due to rain, photos of the float may be submitted for judging.

 

The judges for the Blazer Spirit Council Float Competition are student and staff representatives. The judges for the Alumni Parade Float Competition are representatives of UAB Office of Alumni Affairs.

  • The Blazer Spirit Council Float Competition awards will include 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place.
  • The Alumni Float Competition awards will include Most Creative Float Design, Best Use of Homecoming Theme, and Best Display of Blazer Pride.
