As part of UAB’s 2015 reaffirmation of accreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC), the institution is required to submit a Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) that is designed to improve an aspect of student learning and, therefore, enhance the quality of education at UAB. An acceptable QEP must:

  1. Address a specific topic
  2. Be developed and supported by the campus community
  3. Have defined goals
  4. Be evaluated for its effectiveness

The topic of the current QEP is Learning in a Team Environment. With implementation of this QEP, students and faculty at UAB will be exposed to team mechanics and team dynamics. Exposure to these elements of learning will prove beneficial in all stages of the students’ academic experiences and throughout their careers. Without doubt, the skills our students develop through this process will allow them to enhance their learning while at UAB, enhance their engagement throughout all academic and nonacademic activities, and leave them better prepared to succeed in the workforce upon graduation.

Focusing on building team skills within the classroom offers opportunities for greater retention of materials by students, increased student participation in classroom activities, improved student performance along standard academic achievement measures, and achievement of our prescribed student learning outcomes.
