Are you looking for a way to visualize your work tasks? Microsoft Planner is here to help.

The organization tool allows users to create plans, assemble and assign tasks for the team, share files, communicate, and collaborate. You can also add due dates and priority levels, and set tasks as recurring.

When you open Planner, you can see a dashboard that shows you any plans for the day and an option to add a task.

  • When making a new task, the Plan tab allows you to assign tasks to yourself or add them to a Microsoft Group you belong to.
  • The due date column allows you to set the date your task needs to be completed.
  • Is this task urgent? Change the priority of it with the drop-down menu from the next column.
  • Keep yourself on track or let your teammates know how the task is going with the progress bar. Users can update it to not started, in progress, or completed.

One of the biggest advantages of Planner is how it can integrate into other Microsoft tools:

  • Microsoft Teams: Add Planner tabs to any channel.
  • Outlook: Sync tasks with your calendar view and receive reminders for upcoming or late tasks.
  • Microsoft SharePoint: Store shared documents that are linked to tasks
  • Power Automate: Automate task creation based on business rules

Users who currently have a subscription to Microsoft Copilot 365 can have their AI assistant create plans for complex tasks, generate specific tasks, and update or modify the plans as they evolve.
