Due to evolving federal guidance and ongoing discussions regarding contract terms required of UAB and the state of Alabama, UAB is pausing related review or contracting activity with Anthropic. Therefore, the standalone Anthropic Claude product is currently not approved for use with UAB data or on UAB-managed infrastructure.
- Do not use standalone Claude — desktop, mobile, or website — with UAB data, UAB-managed and owned systems and devices, or work that may be subject to current federal direction involving Anthropic products.
- Claude models available within Microsoft Copilot may continue to be used except for projects under Department of War (DOW) grants, consistent with UAB’s approved AI tool guidance and applicable data-use requirements.
- Anthropic Claude is not eligible for purchase/reimbursement via UAB funds.
We will continue to monitor developments, provide updates, and revisit this position as appropriate when additional information becomes available.
