Think you can spot a phishing scam before it tricks you? Cybersecurity Awareness Month is the perfect time to put your skills to the test.
UAB IT is celebrating with a new game, updated security awareness resources, and practical tips that can help you stay safer online, whether you're working, studying, teaching, or conducting research.
Play the New Phone vs. Phish Game
Cybercriminals increasingly use text messages and phone calls to try to trick people into sharing information, clicking malicious links, or taking actions they shouldn't. To help the UAB community recognize these scams, UAB IT has launched Phone vs. Phish: Delivery Dodger, a new interactive game that lets you practice identifying suspicious calls and text messages in a fun, hands-on way.
Whether you’re deciding if a text is legitimate or figuring out whether a phone call is too good to be true, the game helps build skills you can use every day.
While you’re there, play any of our other security games in the IT Arcade.
Explore the updated Security Awareness web page
UAB IT has also redesigned its Security Awareness web page, making it easier to find quick tips, training resources, videos, games, and guidance for protecting yourself and the university from cyber threats. The site includes information about phishing, password security, device protection, safe data handling, travel security, and more.
Three quick ways to protect yourself
The updated site focuses on simple habits that can make a big difference. Before responding to a message, remember to:
- Check the sender. Make sure the message is coming from who you think it is.
- Consider the tone. Does the message pressure you to act quickly without giving you time to think?
- Report suspicious messages. If something doesn't look right, report it right away.
Security is a team sport
Every member of the UAB community plays a role in protecting university information, research, and systems. A few moments of awareness can help prevent security incidents and keep our campus secure.
