UAB IT is preparing to launch an idea crowdsourcing campaign this fall aimed at understanding and addressing campus technology needs.

The Spark tool will be available as the fall semester begins. UAB IT originally planned a spring launch but the Spark tool was not ready until the week before finals, so the team moved the campaign to fall to give students, faculty and staff time to engage with it.

“If you have ideas or friction points, we want to hear them,” said Robert Howard, vice president and chief information officer. “Our job is to make technology work for the people doing the work of UAB, and we need to know where it is falling short and where we can innovate next.”

In the meantime, UAB IT is working on a number of projects through the spring and summer, including assisting UAB to evaluate new AI tools and developing new AI agents; assessing the IT contract review process to determine if improvements can be made; and continuing a campus network upgrade.
