TKClobbyClinical care for patients with memory disorders is provided through the Memory Disorders Clinic at The Kirklin Clinic. The memory clinic has special expertise in the evaluation of people with memory problems, thinking problems, or other complex neurobehavioral disturbances. At a typical visit, the patient and family will meet with one of our specialists who will obtain a history of the problem, and conduct examinations including cognitive tests to better understand what might be causing memory or related problems.  The provider may also  order blood tests, imaging studies (like CT or MRI scans), or more detailed cognitive assessments called Neuropsychologiocal testing.  Results of these tests will help decide on a treatment plan.  Nurse practitioners are an important part of our clinical team.  They provide periodic follow-up to will help patients and families cope with the challenges of living with a memory issue. In addition to managing prescriptions related to the memory issues, the nurse practitioner will provide information and strategies for living life to the fullest--even with a memory disorder.
