Dr. Jianguo Gu, M.B., Ph.D., who held the title of Edward A. Ernst, M.D., Endowed Professor, now holds the title of Edward A. Ernst, M.D., Ph.D., Endowed Chair in Anesthesiology.

“Dr. Gu is an outstanding scientist with stellar publications in the most prestigious scientific journals, including Nature, Cell, and PNAS,” said Dr. Sadis Matalon, Ph.D., vice chair and director, Division of Molecular and Translational Biomedicine. “His groundbreaking research on understanding the mechanisms of the most basic of the senses—touch—as well as trigeminal pain have started new avenues for research. Furthermore, he organized a highly successful pain symposium, which brought together physicians, scientists, and NIH personnel and encouraged new collaborations. He is very well deserving of this honor.”
