The pain clinicians at UAB combine the safest and most effective therapeutic approaches to pain treatment with an emphasis on quality of life and multidisciplinary care. Their program de-emphasizes the use of opioid medications and strives to empower patients to improve their enjoyment of life by focusing on daily exercise, better nutrition, and stress reduction through the use of cognitive behavioral therapy and mindfulness techniques.

The newly renovated Pain Treatment Clinic at UAB Hospital–Highlands welcomes more than 11,000 patient visits each year, including more than 1,000 new patient evaluations and approximately 6,700 interventional pain procedures. Interventional procedures are performed in state-of-the-art fluoroscopy suites equipped with full monitoring, ultrasound guidance technology, and digital-subtraction capability. Drawing from the expertise of UAB’s internationally renowned pain researchers, the clinicians of the Pain Treatment Clinic continue to advance the field of pain medicine with innovative therapies and novel approaches to the most challenging medical conditions.
