The UAB Division of Cardiovascular Disease participates in the National Residency Matching Program (NRMP) for sub-specialty fellowships. Applications are accepted through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS).

Requirements

  • Applicants must be enrolled in or have completed an ACGME accredited Internal Medicine training program.
  • Candidates must be clinically competent, professional, committed, and highly ethical.
  • Excellent command of the English language is mandatory. USMLE scores and in-training exam scores will be considered.
  • Research experience prior to or during Internal Medicine Residency is desirable.
  • UAB and the Division of Cardiovascular Disease encourages under-represented minorities and women to apply.
  • Applicants who are not US-citizens or permanent residents must be eligible for J-1 for the duration of training.

Licensing

  • Applicants accepted into the Fellowship Program must be board-eligible or board-certified in Internal Medicine.
  • Applicants must obtain an Alabama Medical License before being officially enrolled in the Fellowship Program.
  • The application and supporting information must be submitted to the State Board of Medical Examiners in a timely fashion.
  • Cardiology Fellows are allowed no patient contact until the license has been issued.
  • Appointment to the program may be delayed if a license has not been issued before the beginning of the academic year in July.

National Residency Matching Program

The UAB Cardiovascular Fellowship Program participates in the National Residency Matching Program.

Applications are reviewed in August and September and interviews are conducted in October. At the time of the interview, candidates will be provided with information about program policies and procedures, salary and benefits, and will receive a sample contract for review.
