Laboratory
Supporting UAB’s Neuroimaging Research
The Civitan International Neuroimaging Laboratory provides a core resource at UAB for state-of-the-art MRI neuroimaging experiments and analyses for examining brain and body anatomy and function both in health and disease.

Home to the most powerful 3T scanner commercially available
Our facility is located on the first floor of UAB Highlands Hospital in a newly renovated suite of 5,000 sq. ft. It houses a Siemens Prisma 3.0T whole body MRI system, the most powerful 3T scanner commercially available for structural, functional, and spectroscopic brain and body imaging. Its system architecture allows for future upgrades.

We support investigators with advanced imaging of the whole body
Research at the lab ranges from basic MRI engineering and physics to multisite clinical trials. We support investigators with advanced imaging of the whole body, including the brain, spinal cord, eye, liver, skeletal muscle, heart, and kidney. The resources we offer investigators interested in using MRI in their research include grant information, help coordinating use of the facility and equipment, help scheduling technicians, training, and more.
