Taking the Pulse: a Health Care Podcast recently invited Anath Shalev, M.D., director of the UAB Comprehensive Diabetes Center (UCDC), to speak on advancements in Type 1 diabetes.

In addition to leading the UCDC, Shalev also has a laboratory in the center that conducts research into Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes, particularly in the realm of islet biology and cell signaling. In 2021, Shalev launched the startup TIXiMED to translate her lab's discoveries into a first-of-its-kind oral medication for individuals with Type 1 diabetes.

Taking the Pulse: a Health Care Podcast aims to share advancements in healthcare in relation to industry trends, diseases, treatments, and more. The podcast is led by attorneys from the Maynard Nexsen Health Care Practice Group, with co-host Heather Matthews.
